USS Boston (CAG-1) Ship's Seal

In The Early 1970's the US Navy proposed to refit the USS Boston and her sister, the USS Canberra, for further service into the 1990's. Budget restrictions prevented this and instead led to their scrapping. Had they been serving, their seals would have been re-designed in the 1980's to follow the then new standardized template which, is still in use today. This is my take on what her seal may of looked like had history taken a different route.

Commissioned by the pilot of the stricken F-4 Phantom.

Shot to pieces and leaking fuel like a sieve, a young US Naval pilot makes it home to his carrier thanks to the selfless act of a tanker pilot.

Refusing to leave his wingman's crash site the young pilot protected him until the rescue helicopters arrived, sustaining fatal damage in the process. Completely defenseless and against orders, the tanker flew over 50 miles into enemy territory and towed the young pilot home, pumping gas into his leaking tanks the entire way. Everyone made it home that night. Angels come in all shapes and sizes, even Whales.
